Lipstick is said to have been around as far back as 5000 years go in ancient Babylon. They used semi precious jewels were crushed and then applied as lip stick and sometimes around the eyes. The Ancient Egyptians used a red purple type of dye from the focus algin plants. Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile has her lipstick made from carmine beetles and ants. But lipstick was not popular until the 16th century when Queen Elizabeth I began her reign. Red lipstick and white face powder made a fashion statement at that time.

During World War 2 women began using lipstick and other types of make up they called it putting on their faces. At that time no woman walked out of the house with out her face on. There are many colors and many shades of lipstick today. There are more than 10 shades of red; more than 10 shades of pink, there are peach colored, pearl colored, opal colored and about hundred more colors.

Today lipstick can be used with a lipstick liner, lipstick and lip gloss. To give lips a fuller look. More and more women are looking for lips like Angelina Jolie so they use this combination to get the same look. With so many colors to choose from you have to experiment with different ones to the shade that is right for you.
